Based in the beautiful countryside of Shropshire, Jim McKnight Farrier Services is built on a genuine passion for horses and a commitment to providing the highest standard of farriery care. Having grown up around horses, Jim’s interest in equine health and performance began long before his professional career did. From an early age, he developed an understanding of how important good hoof care is to a horse’s wellbeing, whether they’re a companion pony, a working horse or a top-level competition partner. That early connection with horses shaped his path, and today, it remains at the heart of everything he does.

 

A professional and trusted approach -

Jim qualified as a fully registered farrier in November 2017, after completing his apprenticeship and gaining extensive hands-on experience under some of the best in the trade. Since then, he’s worked alongside over 15 experienced farriers, learning a variety of methods, approaches and techniques across a wide range of equine disciplines. This experience has allowed him to combine traditional craftsmanship with modern farriery practices, ensuring that every horse receives the right care for its specific needs.

 

In early 2019, Jim set up his own business, offering a professional, reliable and caring farriery service across Shropshire and the surrounding counties. He takes great pride in his calm, patient manner, understanding that every horse is different, and that good results come from trust, consistency and attention to detail. Whether he’s providing routine trimming, remedial shoeing or competition shoeing, Jim’s focus is always on keeping horses sound, comfortable and performing at their best.

 

Having worked with horses across multiple disciplines, from hunters and eventers to ponies and leisure horses, Jim tailors each shoeing plan to the individual horse and its lifestyle. His knowledge of different shoeing techniques allows him to adapt to each horse’s needs, whether it’s competing at a high level or simply enjoying a comfortable life in the field. That bespoke approach, along with his genuine respect for both horse and owner, has earned Jim a reputation for dependable, high-quality work and lasting results.

 

Outside of his farriery work, Jim enjoys walking and cycling — both of which give him the chance to explore the countryside that inspires so much of his work. His days are often spent on the road, travelling between clients across Shropshire and neighbouring counties, but he’s happiest when he’s around horses — something that’s been constant throughout his life.

 

Having been brought up with horses, Jim understands the bond owners share with them. It’s this personal connection that drives his dedication to providing the best possible care. He believes that great farriery is not just about balance and precision — it’s about improving a horse’s comfort, movement and quality of life.
